Sarracenia x leucophylla 'ROYAL RED'
Sarracenia x leucophylla 'ROYAL RED' is as beautiful and as large as it is perplexing. It's lid is wine red, turning bright green around a mesh of large snow white areoles down the tube. The lip is also dark red, it looks like a ring. It's a large, stocky plant. The pitcher mouth is so big it could easily fit a golf ball. The pitchers last well into the winter and keep their color. It is one of the gems in our collection.
Unfortunantely there is little information to be had regarding its parentage. It comes to us from ultimately from M. Srba and is possibly one of his hybrids. Plant cleary shows it's leucophylla genes in the form of the white areoles. Best guess is that there's some input from purpurea, as the lid reminds one of a mitchelliana (leuco x purpurea). The great size of the plant could potentially be down to some oreophylla input, as oreophylla is known to endow its hybrid progeny with outstanding vigor.
We offer M size plants, one growing point, will flower in 1 year. This sounds small, and is for the clone, however this is a very big plant, M size ROYAL RED is as big as L size in many other sarras.
