Pinguicula moctezumae
Pinguicula moctezumae was discovered in 1994 during the investigations of possible ecological impact of the future building of the Zimapan dam on the Moctezuma canyon. The species distribution is limited to Rio Moctezuma, state of Hidalgo and state of Queretaro. Rio Moctezumae is the frontier between Queretaro state and Hidalgo State, not far the city of San Joaquin, Municipality of Cadereyta.
Moctezuma II, latinized Montezuma, was the last emperor of the Aztecs, and was defeated and killed by the Spanish.
